Though you might not be able to tell from the photos, the weather has been getting slightly warmer this week. There has been a few days of blue sky and the temperature is on the plus side of zero, so Spring must be just around the corner.
We were cleaning the apartment on Saturday morning and I was just saying that Gretchen must really like her tooth cleaning chews we bought her, as they are always polished off before I get home, just as Emily was stripping the bed to find a couple of the dog chews shoved down the back of the bed. Maybe she is pretending to be a squirrel, hiding them for winter. We took her on another train ride to visit Charlottenlund Slot og Slotshave (Palace and Gardens), which is another park where you can let your dog run free off the lead. Though the temperature might have been getting warmer this week, the ice on the paths around the castle grounds has been around for a long time and is pretty treacherous in places. After walking around the park, we headed down to the sea, which looks pretty cold at the moment as the rocks are thick with ice. This didn’t deter a couple we saw ‘skinny dipping’ (no photographs).
On Sunday we arranged to meet Kevin, an old friend from Aberdeen who now lives in Copenhagen for a bike ride. We cycled to Jægersborg Dyrehave (Deer Park), about 10 miles North of the city. There was a little bit of a head wind to blow the cobwebs away. On the way we stopped off at a harbour, so that Kevin could check on a boat for a friend who is working abroad at the moment. Once inside the deer park the roads were extremely icy and both Kevin and I came a cropper, falling off our bikes, so at some points we gave up and walked for a bit. The park is home to about 2000 head of red, fallow and sika deer, and though we didn’t see many, there were a few around the Eremitage hunting lodge. The park is also home to the Copenhagen Golf Club, the oldest golf club in Scandinavia. I wonder what the local rules are if you hit a deer? On the way back we stopped off for lunch and a couple of beers at Cafe Jorden Rundt.
